Lincoln Beach report 10/18
#1
Got snowed out at work yesterday morning and was sitting around the house about noon and noticed the storm was breaking a little so I loaded up the pontoon and headed for Lincoln.
I had a little car trouble getting down there. Long story short I ended up with a two hour delay and my catallitic converter cut off of my truck making it sound like a stock car. Figured I was all the way to spanish fork, mind as well hit the lake.
Launched between the second and third hot springs. Third cast hooked up a nice white bass. Ten minutes later hooked up a decent 20"+ walleye, came out of the water and gave me a good look, but through the hook. A few bumps and head shakes later I hooked into what I thought had to be a foul hooked carp the way it was stipping line. Finally made a bit roll on the surface and I realized it was a no doubt in my mind 10 lb. walleye, fought it slow and careful for 10 more minutes, finally tired him out enough to land, had him between the pontoon four inches from my net when his huge head came out of the water, made one big shake and out popped the jig. I threw a full on temper tantrum right there on the water. It was the biggest walleye I had ever seen let alone been four inches from netting.
Final score 1 white bass, 3 foul hooked carp; one toped out at 18lbs on the digital scale, hooked in the dorsal fin and landed on six pound test. Numerous hard hits, several with a head shake or two and one giant "what could have been". I was using a tandem grub set-up 1/8th chartuese head on top and a 1/16 black jig on bottom. Grubs were white, clear chartuese, clear purple, purple/black, and hot pink rotated regularly. The hulk hit the white grub on a black head, the white bass took the clear chartuese on a black head. all the other hits is anyones guess.

AWESOME! Guess it is time to make a trip out to JB again. Only problem is the weather looks like crap all week into next week. *crosses fingers it will let up*.

Nice report. We need to have a make-up trip to get that last one to Lindon Harbor off the books. If you decide to go anywhere get in touch.

Yeah, folks who have seen it say it looks like a scary monster. The lighting and angle definately made it look a bit "deformed".

[cool]Sounds like an awesome day!! I mean, it's too bad that Mr. Big (or Mrs.) got off, but at least you got the fun of fighting it, and getting it up close to see! Ya see, hooking into that monster was the result of good karma from towing me into shore with your pontoon when my tube sprung a leaky valve at the BFT flotilla. Why he got off, I don't know how to explain that. Did you get into a fight with the wife/girlfriend that day?[Tongue]

Hope you land that bad boy next time you go out! Man, that story makes me want to get out there soon! Think I might get out there on Saturday the 30th. I'd like to land a nice toothy monster for Halloween!

So, did you have most of your luck in front of the springs, or did you drift back to where we all launched two weeks ago?

according to the dwr. they have netted specimens up to 16lbs in utah lake. so it doesnt surprise me that you hooked into a bohemoth. i saw a guy catch one at bird island that was and easy nine. and he caught it fishing for catfish in the dead of summer! he was using a chub minnow under a bobber and he thought it was just another 6lb catfish! it was a jumbo walleye. i think that there are definitly some toads in there, they just need to be found.

Nice to see your report! A well deserved tantrum is had to have been. At least you got the thrill of bringing it in, that more than I've had this year. Al

Hey Craig,
According to my interpretation, your icon looks like a plastic mackeral with a bizarre green color.

Yep, you got me, its really a Mack I caught @ Pineview. Must have went through the river system and found its way there. Wink I can see the semi-resemblance.
