Strawberry 10-23-04
#1
For the ninth straight year, I fished Strawberry on the opening day of the Deer Hunt. This year was colder than most. We got to the ramp and it was 28 degrees at about 8am. Water temps ran from 41-44 degrees. Fishing was slow for all we talked to. We missed as many as we caught(only about a dozen fish), but they were big and healthy. Ours ranged from 17" to 21" and they were fat.

Here are some pics: First one is my buddy Bryce and a 21" cutthroatasaurus; 2nd was me with a 19 incher; and 3rd was a another cut at doing a death roll while spitting a jerbait.

Thanks for the report Tommy. We'd though about making a trip up there yesterday as well, but we figured the approaching storm would have made for a short day. How long were you guys up there for?

Nice looking fish, what area were you fishing? Did you hear a lot of shooting?

Can't see your fish. Do you have that "inline" problem with your post?

[black]Go read the thread on how to use the "Inline" option with attachments. Old Coot did a great job of explaining the details of how to use it. It's really a cool way to do it once you get the hang of it. Just remember that if you check the Inline box and don't post the pics in the body of your posts others may not be able to see them.[/black]

Just curious, was the camo to fit in with the deer hunters or does it help you hide from the fish???[Tongue]

Hey BLM, may be a good idea to make that "inline" post a sticky or start another forum for info and questions on site functionality. I searched inline to find the post.

Did you troll the whole time? what did u troll with if so? Everytime i troll there all I catch is those stupied cutts that dont fight at all. Thanks for the report wanna take the boat out there atleast one more time before it gets to cold.

I noticed that too. The smaller cutts just seem to be dead weight but the larger guys where ripping drag and gave me a good battle. Try light tackle or even ultra light so they realize that they can make headway instead of just rolling as you drag them in. Would have to be quick with the boat though before you spool out if trolling, LOL.[cool]

We don't troll. Trolling makes me breakout in hives. We fish it bass style. Cast and retrieve. Alot more fun, keeps you busy and warm.

Al, some snake fish fight and some don't. They were bigger in past years though. Normally, we nail 80-100 fish. Our best day ever was in a snow storm.

it looks like hard water season isn't too far awa man. Those are some nice fish. We will have to get together for some ice fishing again this year. Last year was a lot of fun. I am painting and tying up some micro jigs right now for the fall and hard water season,
