bountiful report...10-30
#1
took my dog over to Bountiful and fished for a few hours.... There were only 4 or 5 cars there...cool!
Caught one rainbow. Excuse my lack of fishing vocabulary, but one of the fins near it's exit port was basically gone...red at the end...is this what folks were referring to when stating that planters get a lot of damage from the transport?? It was about 13 inches and was the best fightin rainbow i've caught in my life relatively speakin.
i then lost my lure and threw on a white rooster tail and something very large destroyed it as soon as it hit the water. I always give them a sharp tug after it hits the water to get the spinner goin and at first i thought i had hung the end of the pier i was fishing next too. It was almost dark, so i couldn't see real well and then noticed my line was almost instantly about 20 feet to the left and i noticed 2 large swirls that had just occurred between the place where my rooster tail hit the water and where it was now located. WOW, that didn't make much sense..lol anyway...how big of fish do they have in there?? I've only seen ppl with carp on a stringer when i've been there...have never had a carp hit a rooster tail before.
Oh well...i've blown even hot air for now...anyone have any ideas regarding what i might have gotten into??

It was either a carp or a catfish - by the sound of the way it took off, I would say it was a carp. Carp will hit small spinners and other lures occasionaly.

There are some big carp in there, I think the C&R state record is from there or was.

i only had whatever it was 'on' for a second or two. After i thought i was hung up on the pier, i lowered my pole and kinda cursed under my breath..lol I then tightened my line back up and that's when i noticed how fair my lure had moved and saw the swirls in the water.
Guessing whatever it was, spit my lure out..dunno

there are large mouth in there with some pretty good size. odd time of year for them to hit spinners but possible. there are some huge white bass in there and is possible. the frequently toss brood stock trout in there and if this is the case that could easily be it as well. carp hit spinners so do catfish. so basically it could have been just about any fish in that pond.
