Lincoln beach ice fishing question
#1

With all of the "lively" discussion about Utah Lake, I'm almost afraid to ask this, but here goes. Last year, I read posts about ice fishing in/on "the springs" at Lincoln beach. Do those warm spring "ponds" freeze safely over and allow successful ice angling, or are references to "the springs" referring to the lake at large near where the warm springs empty into the main lake? Obviously in higher water years, this wasn't a question, but it is now. Just wondering.

BRING ON THE ICE!

Remember that Utah Lake is at about the lowest elevation of any of the lakes that freeze during the winter in Utah. As a result, often the ice can only be a couple inches thick on Utah Lake when it may be six inches thick, or more, on the higher elevation lakes. As a result, a couple degrees difference in the area of the springs can make a big difference. I have been able to ice fish, in the marina area around Lincoln Beach, on barely acceptable ice, on the same day that I was able to fish the first spring in open water. A week later the first spring had frozen over, but the ice was still too thin to support ice fishing.
