Bear Lake Salsa Boyz ... 11-20-04
#1
[#804000]Hoping for some good weather, several of us met at the marina this morning around 6:30. BearLakeFishGuy treated us all with some HOT freshly baked bread and mighty tasty home made raspberry jam. Yes, I said hot. He had made it just for us early in the morning. Dang that stuff tasted good. BLFG, thanks much for that way cool surprise.

BLFG was alone in his boat, Bait_Caster and AFDan were in Dan's boat, and I and a friend were in my boat. Fish1on met us out on the pile after having launched his boat from somewhere around Guss's point.

BLFG was first to launch and first to get a cut just outside the marina. Then, shortly after that he picked up a nice mack too. Everyone else tried but got nothing. So, we all headed for the rock pile.

The water temp was about 45 degrees and for a few hours the water was just a bit rough but not too bad. Going through the canyon it got down to 13 degrees but out on the lake it was about 25.

Around 10:00 the sun started to come out, the lake became calm, and we started to getting a few marks and hits. I caught a cut that was about 2-3 lbs. Then my friend Kirt caught a real nice cut about 4-5 lbs. Those were the only fish we boated all day.

We got some real nice hits and had them on for a while but couldn't boat them. One in particular was the "big one that got away". Kirt hooked it first and told him to set the hook hard and … snap … his 15 lb leader broke … hook and all. Five seconds later that big boy was on my pole! I horsed him up three forths the way up and he got off. Kent had set the hook too hard and I hadn't set it hard enough. Had we got him in the boat, I'm sure he would been worth bragging about. Oh well.

Others may have caught fish but the only ones I am aware of was Kirt, BLFG, and myself. Overall, I'd say the fishing was slow.

The weather was cold at times but overall quite nice. We did have some salsa and chips but we missed FFM's good stuff. But Scott's hot bread and jam made up for it. As you can all guess, we all had a great time on the water and made some more good memories with good company.[/#804000]

I wish I could have been at Bear Lake and fished Huntington also. I need to find my clone, he never showed up to work either. Sound like a great trip even after the scare of bad weather it turn out to be nice for fall fishing. It was nice however to get out on the first ice of the year, cant wait until next weeks trip.

hey old coot hows it going? Me and a freind showed up around 7:30 that day. We fished from the marina to the rock pile in 70 feet of water. Marked alot of fish just kept trolling trough them. Caught the first at around 10:00. I had one on that I fought for 10 minutes then it got off. We caught 6 total. 4 mack and 2 cuts the biggest mack was 5 lbs 4 oz. The biggest cut was 4 lbs even. I was in the blue weld craft (with the heater running most of the day). We loaded and went home just as the big snow storm hit.
