COMINS LAKE
Anglers who were fishing at the White Pine County lake over the weekend told NDOW that the fishing was somewhat slow, but the fish that were taken were around 19 to 20 inches. Fish are being caught in deep water near the dam and in the channel between the upper and lower lakes. Sparkle PowerBait, worms and marshmallows are catching the fish while the favorite fly has been the flashback hare’s ear nymph.
[#990033]EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR [/#990033]
The weather continues to be cold and the ice on the reservoir continues to thicken. The ice is still not thick enough for ice fishing.
[#990033]ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR[/#990033]
Ben Johnson from Nevada State Parks said that the constant colder temperature has caused ice to form on 98 percent of the reservoir. The ice is thin and not yet safe for ice fishing.
Despite the cold weather, anglers have been enjoying fairly good fall fishing for stocked rainbow trout as well as striped bass. There have also been some reports of boaters catching largemouth bass in the Overton Arm.
The action for stripers continues to be good in the Las Vegas Wash area where boaters are catching the fish with live shad. Shore fishing has been fair in the Boulder Basin for those fishing in the vicinity of the fishing dock. Several stripers weighing more than five pounds have been caught recently with top water lures cast from shore along Special Events Beach.
A pair of boaters who were fishing in the Overton Arm on Sunday (12/5/04) caught 18 plump stripers that ranged from 20 to 22 inches by trolling near Stewart’s Point. Baits they used were Sassy Shad lures and an anchovy placed behind a spinner.
On Saturday (12/4/04) two boaters told Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks that they caught and released six largemouth bass at St. Thomas.
Fishing has been good following the rainbow trout plants, and a number of anglers have reported to NDOW that they have taken five fish limits. Plants will be held Friday (12/10/04) at Hemenway, Horsepower, North Saddle and Pumphouse coves.
[#990033]LAKE MOHAVE[/#990033]
Cold weather continues to keep all but the more hearty anglers away from the lake. Those who have ventured onto the water have had some success for striped bass from Owl’s Point to the narrows above Cottonwood Cove. Drifting and trolling with anchovies have been the methods for catching fish that range from a pound to nearly 2 pounds.
NDOW plans to stock rainbow trout on Friday (12/10/04) at Power Line Cove. Trout will be stocked on Friday, Dec. 17, at Placer Cove, Cottonwood Cove and Willow Beach.
Daniel Maes, Assistant Area Manager, said that low single digit temperatures brought ice to all reservoirs. He was not sure if the ice is thick enough for ice fishing. NDOW recommends that anglers exercise caution when ice fishing.
[#990033]URBAN PONDS[/#990033]
Fishing has been good for rainbow trout following NDOW’s plants. The next stocking will take place Friday (12/10/04) at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City.
