G'day to all AK anglers and those that have an interest fishing the state of AK.

Just a brief note to let you know who I am, and where I am located here, at the BFT Boards.

Yep, you can find us at the Baits & Lures Board where we plan to talk up a storm on all aspects of baits, lures, jigs, jig flies, soft baits, hard baits, heavy jigs up to 48 oz's, strip baits, circle hooks, glow in the dark heads, bladed lures for Halibut, Ling and more.

Look forward to passing information back and forth given I have some angling friends in AK and some idea of the tackle needed in some places.

Also look forward to listening, learning and talking with all global anglers about their tackle needs. So call in and drop us note about the fishing season as it warms up.

I have heard that it's going to be a good one.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve
The Master Jig Builder
Lures/Baits Moderator
G'day also to the AK Boat Captain's who post here.

Just a brief note to let you know that we welcome your report comments over on the Lures/Baits Board as long as it is about what's been working and why.

On that basis I am more that happy to then have a link back to your weekly reports if wanted.

I am sure many anglers would like to hear more detail from you of that kind and especially those planning trips up your way.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve
The Master Jig Builder
http://www.demonjigs.com
Glad you could join us Capt. Rob and I enjoyed reading your post.

Don't forget to register a user name as well ok and then you'll get your replies automatically..

As to your Q. there are any number of scale type finishes available, and we use a number of them ourseleves when making up halibut, ling and salmon jigs for AK anglers.

What weights are your jigs and what shape? I also note that there is no mention of either spinner blades or glow heads on your jigs either. Often, and from our experience, these do better up your than any types of tapes, scaled or otherwise.

A few examples of what I am talking about are on the links below:

http://www.outdoorcart.com/demon/hellraiser.htm

This slim line "Long Tom Jig" os different again:

http://www.outdoorcart.com/demon/longtomjig

From my experience, tapes will not give you a herring finish in the colors your looking for. Needs a totally different approach and something like this below is close to the mark with a high flash and flexing tail.

http://www.outdoorcart.com/demon/sonicboom.htm

Let me know if you have more Q's after registering that name as I cannot see an e-mail address here on the post for sending this to you direct.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com

Steve, I will be going to Anchorage on 7/22/02 and renting a motorhome for the next week. I have one charter scheduled so far out of Anchor Point, but am looking to add at least one more. Also, am hoping there are places to just go fishing between Anchorage and Homer on my own, since I will have the motorhome for transportation/lodging.

I'm not locked into any particular type of fishing or fish, just hoping to maximize my fishing opportunities on my first trip to Alaska. Freshwater, Saltwater, halibut, salmon or whatever, I would tend to go with whatever is, or should be, the best at this time.

Any ideas or suggestions you might have would really be appreciated. Thank you.
