Water Swap Questions
#1
Last week in the Tribune there was an article about swapping acre feet of Water FROM Jordenelle with Acre feet water in Lake Utah.

If anyone knows the impact of this on Lake X - please chime in.

Does this mean the designated "Water Holding Reservoir" will now be dropping every summer like Deer Creek?

This really sounds like the developers paid those state lobbiest to pull the water over the publics eyes - but I hope I'm wrong.

Please - can someone provide this facts - Lake X should be the future fishing hotspot for years to come - not the water source for the Park City Rich.

All I know is that water from Strawberry will now be piped over to Diamond Fork and Spanish Fork Canyons, to go into Utah Lake and Provo River to be used for South Utah County water needs as well as June Sucker habitat. As part of the deal, since Utah County is getting more water that way from Strawberry, some of the water that used to go to Utah County from the Jordanelle/Deer Creek system will go to Salt Lake county for their water needs there. A lot of the water in that system already goes to Salt Lake County.

So, it might be even worse than you think, depending on how you look at it. Strawberry will be more affected by drawdowns each summer/fall, but Utah Lake should get a bit more water than before. Jordanelle will probably be drawn down more than normal too, but hopefully it won't be affected too badly.

If you want more information on all of this, you can search the web for information on the Central Utah (Water) Project, or CPU.

Here is the official website where I'm sure you can get more information than you'd ever want on the matter:
