Short Bear Lake Trip
#1
BLM and I headed for Bear Lake this morning at about 6 am. Arrived at Cisco Beach to see a plowed ramp, comparatively warm temperatures, a little overcast, no W, and no waves.
[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=7959;]Prep'ed the the boat (The Boomerang) and backed it down the ramp.
[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=7960;]Dropped the tires off the edge of the concrete and the trailer started grinding on the ramp. Rather then continue, BLM began to pull the Boomerang back over the edge of the ramp and out. The tires just spun on the ice and the Boomerang just didn't want to come back over that edge. We pulled out the ice melt that I decided to by at the Chevron in Garden City (good thing) and put some down.
[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=7961;]BLM put it in 4 low and the Boomerang came back over the edge (insert sigh of relief). Decided it wasn't worth beating up the trailer and/or the boat and headed home.

There were a few folks trying for Cisco but I don't think they're getting many if any yet. I didn't see any Cisco by the ramp. Looked like some decent patches of ice were starting to form on the west side. If it stays cold and the wind doesn't kick up it may just cap over. Ya right. Extended periods without wind at Bear Lake are rare. Especially in the winter.

[black]A small boat can easily launch but not mine. The drop off the end of the ramp into the boulders is not worth it. We could of launched but the heck with it. After the drop off I still needed to back up another few feet and the bottom is nothing but big round rocks. Not worth getting high centered and stuck with the trailer. The icy ramp isn't very good traction even with 50# of ice melt. I'm sure the next few folks will be thankful for the salted ramp.[/black]

Man, your last few times to the Bear are not working out. Hopefully we get a thaw/freeze, either one so we can finally access the lake.

Sorry to hear about your aborted trip. The last time my boat trailer hung up on a boat ramp it cost me $250 to get it repaired (Total cost was $500, but after considerable effort, got the owner of the boat ramp to pay 1/2), so I think I will pass on launching my boat from the Cisco Beach ramp.

The conditions at the bear are tough. I spent the weekend shoveling 3' of snow off my roof. no fishing for me, but I did venture out to check the launch/fishing conditions. Small boats and no cisco is what I have for reports!

Its bites you guys had to turn around and go home but its better than messing up the boat trailer. Sounds like it time to swap Mac hunting locations. Now I cant be certain, but I hear most of FG has lots of open water and boat ramps.. Then again that might just be a rumor.. [Wink]

[black]I talked to a guy who spent the weekend fishing the Linwood area and they did alright on macks. Nothing big but the catching was fair. He also said that the trolling for rainbows was consistent and that the fish were all fat and healthy.[/black]

[black]IFG is going to be back soon and wants to go fishing. Maybe we'll just have to head for the Gorge and spend a few days chasing macks from the boat.[/black]
