Strawberry 1/14/05 to 1/15/05 Report (Night)
#1
Hit the Berry Friday night with some friends and my bro in law. We hit the ice about 4 p.m. off the boat ramp at the Marina. Fishing was dog slow, nothing in fact. Nobody near us was doing anything either. We moved right before dark and found the fish. We stayed until about 4 a.m. and landed 15 cutts in all. Fishing wasn't hot, but we caught fish.

I personally was very frustrated as I lost at least 8-10 fish. I was trying a new ultra lite pole I picked up for my kids. Well.. I switched back to my medium lite pole and never missed another fish. Figure the extreme give from that pole was hurting the force of the hook set. Dunno.. but man it was weird.

Anyway, hit Heber for a couple hours of sleep and then headed up to go Elk hunting. Got into the Elk, but no shots since we wanted to be nice and not spook the Elk some others were working on too. I filled my tag last week doing the same fish/hunt drill! [Smile]

About mid morning we hit Mud Creek to wait for the elk evening hunt. Fishing stunk! People were EVERYWHERE and nobody was catching anything. I caught two fish in 2 hrs and felt like a stud out there! [cool]

Overall, conditions were wonderful. Slush was bad, but mostly frzoze. If you stayed on the beaten paths or snowmobile tracks, you were fine. Got a little ugly every now and then, but I expected much worse. If it stays cold, it shouldn't be too bad. Slush deep though, WOW. If you fall through that first layer, it goes almost to your knee.

Good report. It is typical this time of year for the early morning fishing to be good and then slows way down around 10:00am.
The ultra light rods are fun to reel the fish in but you need alittle back bone on your rod to consistantly hook them.
