Weather Smiles on fishing, summertime fishing in October
Fishing has been good all week. There is much more enthusiasm about fishing in general now that no storms or hurricanes are headed our way.
Reports are that trout, redfish and mangrove snapper as well as a few small flounder, are being caught on the north jetty.
Catches are on live shrimp or live finger mullet.
At Fisherman’s Wharf anglers from the boats have been catching red snapper, shark and some real nice amberjack. There are a few kingfish still biting.
In the bays, redfish and black drum continue to be the story.
Anglers going out of Dolphin Dock Inc. have been catching fish by the numbers. During the past week they caught more than 100 blackfin tuna, two blacktip shark that weighed 90 to 100 pounds, 15 yellowfin tuna in the 50 to 70 pound range and a 42-pound amberjack.
Limits of red snapper have been coming in along with grouper, kingfish, barracuda, dorado, African pompano and wahoo.
In spite of the weather predictions, fishing was fantastic all week.
Anglers caught limits of red snapper and limits of amberjack on the 12-hour trips.
They are also catching Atlantic sharpnose shark, big blacktip shark in the 100-pound range, ling and grouper.
"Fishing looks promising for the coming week with no tropical storms or hurricanes predicted.
Lots of red snapper, many in the 15 to 20 pound range, are being caught as are dorado, a few wahoo and nice amberjack.
"Ling are still hitting real good.
A few tuna are showing up, but not in abundance yet.

Down south at BobHall Pier it is reported that the Spanish Mackeral are hitting hard and heavy.[Smile]
