Fred, wish I could be of more help, but I have fished Pelican twice through the ice (never fished it when it has been soft water) and I got totally skunked, along with three other fishermen the first trip, and managed to catch three bass on my last trip. I caught one bass on the drop, and the other two was while I was fishing close to the bottom. Hopefully Kayote will respond. I think he fishes it more often than any other BFT member.

all the bass I have caught there have been on red or hot pink heads with small chartreuse sparkle boddies and have been either early in the morning or just as the sun was going down. (I was tipping them with wax worms),

Leaky the Bass I've iced there marked at 5'-6' and grabbed it on the drop.

Most of the bass I have iced out of that lake have been fairly early in the morning, say before 9:00 or 10:00 and hugging the bottom so tight you could barely even make them out on the sonar.

Leaky,
Some days are just more bassy than others. I will use the same lure in the same area days apart and get bass one day and bluegill the next. One thing I have noticed is bass tend to like a little larger jig, 1/8 ounce seems to be more productive. The bass seem to be attracted to chartreuse colored offering also. I know they will hit any color, but I've noticed a trend toward the chartruese over the years. Also, if the gills are biting steadily where you are you should move. The gills move out of an area when the big greenies are around. Just my dos centavos. Good Luck.
