Spring fishing questions
#1
Just wanted to throw this out for some general feedback. What time of year/month will you guys start fishing for catfish? I want to focus more on that and my bass fishing this spring/summer so I thought I'd throw out this question too. When do you start throwing topwater for bass as well? I have a craving to keep fishing topwaters for them this year, well into summer if I can get bites on it, and I want to fish for catfish a lot during this summer down on the big bathtub in Utah county if I can. Just sound off and let me know what some of you who do these things frequently prefer timewise. Thanks for the advice.

You can effectively start catching mudcats from shore in Utah Lake as early as March when the Walleye are in pre-spawn. For Channels, it often starts getting very good in April.

For largemouth bass, it kinda depends on the weather a lot of the time.

Thanks, I had heard that the channels start moving up to spawn around April but I haven't fished for them that early in about three years (since I last lived in Provo), so I just wanted to ask because it seems a lot of folks fish for them around this site.... I figured I could get bass on topwater around April when they go into prespawn but I was hoping some bass gurus would ring in for me...

well, technically you can catch cats year round if you are patient enough, i like to fish in the end of may,and early june, thats when the cats are on fire and can be caught all day long. fish in shallow rocky areas and you are gonna catch cats. i usually start to exclusivly fish for cats in the end of march-early april, the bite isnt great but they can be caught. fish the warmest days, and fish near warm, or flowing water , the cats will congregate in these areas. in the hotter months of august and september fish will mostly eat at night and they will be feeding shallow, as little as 1 ft. october can be really cold, but the bite can be really good, or really really bad. i hope i have been of some help. cant wait till spring!!~ Here kitty kitty kitty!!!

I just made an offer on a house in Payson, so if all goes well, I'll be fishing Lincoln Beach quite often here soon! I've never actually fished it before, except once from the shore when I was only like 12 years old. I live in Orem, so I usually fish Lindon or the Bubble-up. Now Lincoln will be very close. Woo hoo!!![cool]

Usually you can start catching cats in march when it starts to warm up for a couple of weeks. Fish shallow! or if your fishing a river the cats will start biting with the first run off or rise of the river. You can catch bass on top water during the spawn. It might not be the best techniqe at that time, but can be very effective. usually when the water temps get into the sixties you can do good with spinner baits and some top water. The top water bite can really heat up in the seventy degree range. If the bass are shallow there is always that chance to get into a top water bite, but they don't move to good when the water is in the fourty or fifty degree range. when its cold, the key is to move your offering slow, slow!!!!!!!!

Cool if you move to payson you will be 10 minutes from lincoln beach depending on what part you live at. Also you have payson lake right up the mountain salem pond and spring lake minutes away.I usually go to LB after work in the spring and all summer long.Last year the kitty cat fishing ws awesome hopefully it would be as good this year.Dont know if it can get any better! There were a bunch of 10lb cats all over the place!

Ya I can't wait to try out LB, and I've been to Spring Lake and Payson Lakes before, so that'll be great too.
