Hello, I am a new member today.
I went up on rockport with a friend of mine, and have never fished the rock before, and decided I would give it a try. We got there at about 1 pm, on the south west side, and fished with a fish finder. Only a couple of fish went by and no takers. We drilled and drilled and could never find any goups of fish so we decided to drive back towards the dam still on the west side. We found that there were so many holes not fozen over that we didn't have to drill anymore, which was heaven, but still no fish. We moved all over, deap to shallow with the fish finder, and nothing still. We moved south around the first bend of land and we started to see more fish, but they were all up with-in the first 10 feet of water each time, but still no bites. It started to rain so we called it a day and just as I reeled up my line through the hole a rainbow chased it up. I saw it through my ice hole and dropped my line back down as quick as I could and landed it. It was a nice Bow about 17 in. not to fat, but ok. All the fins were there so I figure it was a native.
Also the ice was melting and water was sitting on the ice in small ponds, but the ice it-self was 5-7 in. thick.
I wasn't to happy about the very, very, very, slow day. But still happy to be ice fishing. We ended up with one bow and nothing else. I want to try the rock again, but most likely not this year, u never know though. For the most part I think i'll stick with the Berry for the rest of this ice fishin year. I was born and raised Ice fishing that place, and love it to death.
And also if any one could tell me where to fish on the rock it would be very helpful for the next trip up there.
it's good to be talking about fishin,
