Canyon Lake & Highland Chain of Lakes Report

Canyon Lake: Water clear; 54 degrees; 909.06’ :

**Canyon Lake is producing some of the biggest/heaviest fish of any lake in central Texas. This has been the best February pre-spawn of big largemouth and smallmouth that we've had in years. **

Largemouth are good to 9.25 pounds along ledges and offshore structure in 12’-20’ using green-pumpkin Snap Back lizards, # 46 Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com) and pumpkin Devil’s Tongues (www.cremelure.com) on drop shot rigs. Upriver, a (brand new series) 1/4 oz. All Red Terminator stainless spinnerbait is producing bass over 6 lbs.along channel breaklines, as are 5" watermelon-char. Whacky Sticks rigged on a "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com) and black-blue Texas rigged Snap Back Tubes pitched to stumps and laydowns in 5'-8'.

Smallmouth are very good to 6 plus lbs. over rockpiles in 5’-15’ on Terminator chart. spinnerbaits, pumpkin Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) smoke-red flake Snap Back tubes (www.terminatorlures.com) and suspending jerkbaits.

Stripers are fair along open water ledges and humps in 40’ vertically jigging Pirk Minnows and trolling Hyper Striper jigs (www.kgenterprise.com) .

White Bass are very good in 35’ on Pirk Minnows, 2” pearl Spoiler Shads and ¼ oz. Blade Runners (www.lakeviewlures.com).

Lake Buchanan: Water clear; 51 degrees; 1020’

Largemouth are good to 7 lbs. in 10’-20’ using suspending (hard) jerkbaits, Carolina rigged pumpkin Snap Back (www.terminatorlures.com) lizards w/chart. tails, crawfish Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com) on mainlake points and Texas rigged Chameleon Scoundrel worms (www.cremelure.com) rigged wacky style on a 3/0 “K” Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com) worked along ledges on secondary points.

Stripers are good around The Willows trolling white/gray Hyper Striper jigs,(www.kgenterprise.com) Bomber A’s and tight-lining live bait.

White Bass are fair in 30’ on Pirk Minnows, Spoiler Shads (www.cremelure.com)& 1/8th oz. Tiny Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com).

Crappie are fair in 15’ under heated/baited docks like Hi-Line Resort

Lake LBJ: Water stained; 52 degrees; 820.24’:

Largemouth are good along stumps on channel turns using a bubblegum Snap Back soft jerkbait (www.terminatorlures.com) rigged on a 1/32 oz. weighted 4/0 Bait Jerker hook (www.falconlures.com) pitching black-blue-purple ¼ oz. Terminator jigs w/Uncle Josh trailers (www.unclejosh.com), watermelon-red Craw Tubes (www.cremelure.com).

White Bass are fair to good in the channel off Apple Head on Pirk Minnows and chrome 1/8 oz. Spin Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com).

Crappie are fair under docks on white Curb’s Crappie jigs and minnows.
