Hi all, first post here anyways, i was hoping that someone could maybe help me with porcupine. I have been up there a bunch of times and only ever caught a few koks. i like to ice fish and troll but never done well. anyone done good up there in the last couple of years. i have a fishfinder and never seem to be able to find any schools of them, including 4 times since the ice has been on. anyways any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know the past year they have been on the down side of their cycle, so that could be the reason you haven't been able to find any schools. Perhaps in a year or two they will be back up and much easier to catch. Causey is also in a down cycle, so it could be slim pickin's for the kokes.

You’re not the only one that has had problems up there. I consider catching one fish a good day on Porcupine. If you do find them there are a lot of us that would like to know where.

If you would like someone to go up with you send me a PM.

I was fishing porcupine daily for a couple of months last year. the bigest keys to caching fish on the pig was speed!!!! And when i say that i mean you need to wach it constantly to find what the kokes like at that time of day seams earler in the morning they like it a little faster then later in the day. I have had good results with smaller lures and using a downrigger is a must in the summer months also working with a electric trolling motor helps a ton you don't have to let out as much line. The fish can be real spooky up there to engine noise. Best bet for lures seams to be orange but i have had them hit almost every color patern the arn't very paternable up there and i think thats what makes them so dificult. But my best results came from the shasta tackle line of kok-a-nuts and sling blades kept at low speeds early in the morning about a half an hour before sun up to two hours after it will start slowing down as the day goes on. Keep in mind that speed is one of the most important things to wach for some times it can be a tenth of amile off and you won't catch anything.
Hope this helps guys

dsolsen welcome to the site, Porcupine is one of my favorite places to fish. However I have never really focused much on the Kokes and not having a boat or a vehicle to get me there in the winter doesn't make me much of a help. My main focus has always been the Browns so that and Bows is what I catch most. I would agree with some of the other posts about there being a down cycle. With the work on the dam and the drought it has been hard on all the fish in the lake. Good to have you aboard. I wish you the best.

I think leaded line would work fine down to about 50 feet with a little help from aded wheight. The earlier you go in the morning the fish will be higher in the water and then move deeper as the day goes on in spring i wouldn't even use leaded line i would just long line a setup behind the boat and see what hapens most of the time they are runing real shallow 5 to 20 feet and you can reach them without all the junk and hasel of leaded or DR's if you don't have a speed indicator just run the trolling motor on the first three setings and see what that does for you. The slower the better most of the time give me a pm and i will hook you up with some more info
