Currant Rockport Snow & Ice Conditions
#1
I went up to fish for a few hours yesterday (Thurs) afternoon.
There is only 1 inch of snow on the ice,so your can all leave your
ice cleats at home because you won't be slippin'.(there's a half inch of slush underneath). I was there 2 weeks ago when there was no snow on top (very slick) and you would think that there would be more snow considering all the storms we have been having since the first of Feb. Anyhow, about 7 inch iceness, all
the open spots that were there a couple of weeks ago are froze
up. Edges are solid. Snow at the pull out areas (West sidea) is a
non issue. Fishing note: I couldn't find the perch at my usual "honey holes" at about 40 ft. I had to move in closer at 25 ft. to find them. I was fishing off the south end of lake, west side. Tight Lines
everyone!!

Thanks for the report tackletangler. I was thinking about Strawberry for tomorrow, but with the storms predicted for up there, I think that Rockport will do just fine.
I will try the West side for the first time this year.
Most reports like yours, say to fish in shallower water than I am used to. I will give it a try in about 25' of water and see how it goes.
I will be on channel 12-0 if anyone else is going up there, DKS.

Welcome to BFT, d-mack. You will find that when it comes to going fishing, you won't leave home without a quick look here first. Good luck tomorrow. I hope the weather holds for a while. I don't want to be stuck inside a tent all day.

Hey d-mack welcome to the most informed fishing forum in
Utah. I think you'll soon discover that this is "thee" happeni'n place!
Hey for what it's worth I plan on fishing the west side of the Rock
tomorrow aswell. I'll be up there from 7 - 11. I'm thinking about
trying a new area (new for me) of the west side. It's called Kent Point, it's the 1st and 2nd pullout once you pass the dam (heading southbound) The highway traverses a ravine (Kent Canyon wash) anyway if you pass that you have gone too far. These pullouts are just north of the ravine. You can access the ice by walking down
through the ravine. Anyway that's where I'll be and anyone from BFT is welcome around my propane heater anytime (just don't get too close). It sounds like DKStroutfiitter will be on the west side too. I drive a white/brown nissan PU with brown shell. Hope to see you all there?

Welcome to the board! It's great fun and information. I'll be heading to Rockport tomorrow with a friend from work and his three kids(4,6,8) in tow. They have never been ice fishing before. Hope I can get them onto some fish. I will be listening on CH12. We will probably be on the west side somewhere.

There's a good chance that I'll be up there on Monday aswell.
It's up to my kids to decide on either the am or pm bite. Nevertheless, I'll be up there on the west side with my Motorola
tuned in to channel 12.0. Good luck

I too have found them shallow. The usual 40-50ft depths were flat empty for us. We moved into 35ft and found them. Also, we noticed that 7-10 is more like 9-12 now for "hotter" times.
