Hungry Browns?
#1
Hey there bftr's, it's been a few weeks since I've been out fishing and I'm starting to go through withdrawls. I would really like to find some hungry browns this saturday but I don't know where to go. I've heard that lake x (jordanelle) might be the ticket. Any one been there lately? Might try deer creek as well. We will be trying out the new trolling motor so any tips on trolling lures and techniques to land some of these browns would be helpful. By the way I've heard there is a little open water on starvation, can you launch a boat yet. Thanks alot. "FISH ON!"

Took the boat out to Jordanelle last saturday and caught 5 total fish the biggest being a 4.1lb brown trolled at 65 feet with a brown and gold broken back rapala. We were out in the open water closest to the damn when we started hooking up. We had much better luck in number's later in the day on Deer Creek. I think it's just preference just remember that brown's are meat eater so anything that look's like minnow's are a good bet.
Hope you do well out there
SOCKEYESLAYER
P.S.There is a new picture in Provo Sportsmans of a young man Holding what look's to be a 7-8 lb brown caught about the same place and time as mine last week.

Hey all,
I've been to Jordanelle with my boat 2 of the last 3 weekends. We spend half our time trolling, very unsuccessfully, and then finally go next to the ice and jig and do very well for smaller rainbows.
I think the water temperature is still a little bit too cold for trolling, but thats just my opinion. We have tried traditional trolling methods with pop gear and worm, without pop gear, with Rapalas of all shapes and sizes, deep, shallow, with downriggers, without down riggers and so far the only thing I caught doing that was somebody elses ancient fishing line with a big stick on the end. Hey at least it was exciting for a moment...it felt like a big old bruiser trying to swim away from me!
For me if I want to catch a big fish, I'll go to Strawberry until Jordanelle warms up about 7.5 more degrees!
Now if you just want to catch fish in the 12 to 14 inch range, there are plenty of those for the taking at Jordanelle. Just park your boat next to the ice and use ice fishing jigs and lures. The two of us caught 40 plus fish that way in about 3 hours last weekend, but no biguns or browns.
Hope this helps!

I used to N.ot have E.nough T.ime O.ff to go fishing.  Then I retired.  Now I have less time than I had before. Sheesh.

One things to get ready for is the "runoff" - yes, that's right when the water turns brown and the levels get way up - the Browns put on the feed bag - they can be had on night crawlers. Just head to the streams - put on a piece of pencil lead, 2' leader and #6 hook with a big crawler on. Bounce it through the current and holding water and you should have great luck. This was my favorite time of year in Montana because most fisherman do not fish the muddy waters and often I would be the only one - just remember to get it down and deep.

Also - do not forget about Starvation - the biggest browns of the season will be happening in the next few weeks - if the warmer weather continues - big jigs tipped with bait will be the ticket.

The word I'm getting from a co-worker that lives just above Starvation is that the ice is still covering most of the lake. It should only be a matter of days like the last few for the ice to start breaking up, and then one good "W" day to clear it past the boat launch.

Good luck to you on your Brown search . I might get a pic of one this weekend . Still waiting for the moon to get just right . I mainly fish jigs for them , but will throw a rapala at them too . I'll be where no boats will be on the water .
