Jigging strategies for a rookie - help!
#1
I started ice fishing this season and am totally addicted now, it's also the first time I've used jigs and it seems they are very effective. When the hard deck comes off the berry and the gorge how do you fish the jigs? I'll be on the bank or in a tube. Do the whatta crickets and boogers work in the open water like they do under the ice? Do you need to have extra weight to flip them out and how do you attach that weight without affecting the action, and what's the technique for retreiving them. I had a blast at the berrry this year and was amazed at how well the jigs worked. I ended up having the best success with a glow curly tail or paddle bug.
Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

ICE JIGS WILL WORK ANYTIME OF YR. BUT TUBE JIGS 3 AND 4 INCH WILL WORK BETTER. AND TWISTER TAILS WILL PRODUCE ALSO. DARKER COLORS IN SPRING LIKE MOTOR OIL DARK GREEN BLACK. AS FAR AS FISHING THEM FROM SHORE TO WILL GET TONS OF SNAGS IN BRUSH. BERKLEY POWER GRUBS CRAYFISH KICK BUT AT ICE OUT FISHED RIGHT ON THE CONCRETE BOAT RAMPS VERY VERY SLOWLEY WILL GET YOU SOME GOOD RAINBOWS.

I use the clear water bobbers to add weight for distance when casting from shore. They also allow my jig to stay out and my line to slide thru it to offer a little jigging action. Hard to feel a light bite but affective if the fish takes it.
