Smallmouth in my office

Hello Everyone!!!

I got a new job last December that is pretty demanding, and between that and school, I haven't had any free time to visit our forum, or even lurk. It's good to be back.

I am about to buy a home in Saratoga Springs that has a unique feature. In the room I'm going to use as my office, there is a 50 gallon fish tank built into the wall. I think it would be awesome to have some smallmouth bass in it. Just to watch how they eat, etc.

Does anyone know if they would even survive in such an environment? Would it be too hard to maintain? Where could I legally get some bass to put in it?

well they will live in the tank one maybe 2 but to be legal you have to get a permit from the dwr and the state plus i think they only allow hybreds that can't reproduce for private use. i looked into it a few years ago and it was a pain.
But if I was you I would see if you can get blue gills 2 of them for that size of tank.

No Bass In Your Office!
GILLs make great aquarium pets. Just getting them is the problem. Drop a line to the DWR and ask them. Hey buddy, you down for some tourneys this year? the website is up and running. www.utbass.com I am Nicaragua until May. I hear the water levels are up at Deer Creek. when I arrive home, the bass should be staging for the spawn. You down for some bedded bass?

i have had fish tanks for years.. and have had bluegilles out of a privet pond in highland Ca in one.. they were the florida strain and meaner than any fish there size i have ever seen.. but still a cold water fish.. to have fish like what are in the lakes around here in utah and or any cool water fish you have to miantane the right water temp..
for tropical fish you have to have a heater to keep the water warm.. but for cold water fish you have a cooler to cool the water off to keep it the right temp of water for that kind of fish.. some fish do ok for a while in tropical tanks but most do better in a tank that the water temp never get over 70 and better if held in the 60's..
