Jordanelle Morning 3-12-05
#1
[cool][#0000ff]TubeBabe wanted to see if any perch remembered her from last year, so we elected to try Lake X this morning, rather than be abused at Lincoln Beach again. Air temp 34 and water temp 38 when we launched at 8 AM. Calm conditions, with most of the visible lake free of ice. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Several boats were already launched from the PWC ramp. The main ramp is still iced in, as is pretty much the whole north arm of the lake. The last boat to launch, just as we were getting there, left his headlights on when he parked the truck next to a snowbank in the abbreviated parking area. As we left, we noticed that later arrivals had parked both in front of his truck and right behind his trailer. That guy will probably be ecstatic at what he finds when he wants to trailer the boat.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Followed the directions given by another BFTer who had found trout and perch not too far from the PWC ramp, but could not find anything willing to play. We did meter fish at middepth, and a few very small fish near the bottom, in 25 feet of water. We later found some larger fish cruising in water less than 10 feet deep but they also had lockjaw.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I had one rainbow, about 2 pounds, hooked briefly. It slurped in a small white jig cast in to shallow water along a tree covered bank. When the jig "hung up" on a "tree branch", I wiggled it to get it free. It wiggled back, and I was late in setting the hook. The pretty troutski rolled near the surface and returned my jig to me so that I did not have to unhook it. I had one other light bite on the same white jig.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We worked out to as deep as 60 feet, and worked around structure whenever we could find it. Nothing. I also had to put up with the goosey laughter from a couple of Canada geese who were hanging out on the edge of the small remaining ice cap at the far west end of the little bay by the PWC ramp.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I worked over to the edge of the ice and my sonar showed that there were fish present. However, they did not want any of the baits or lures I offered. But, that was where I had the second bite. Don't know what species it was.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There were several boats trolling and quite a few bank fishermen. There were also several other tubers when we got there, but they left about the time we were hitting the water. We overheard them telling the shore fishermen they had not caught anything, and none of the shore fishermen caught anything either.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I guess I will wait for a few weeks before getting too excited about Lake X again. The perch will be spawning after the temps hit 42 degrees and all the other fish will get more active with a few more degrees of water temperature. But, it was a pretty morning to be out watching FISH TV and practicing vertical jigging techniques from a tube.[/#0000ff]

Hey TD, sorry I had to crap out on ya today. But we will get another shot at it. If you have some time in the afternoon, early evening I think you might do better right now. Nice pics, and ya just gotta love that clean air.
