Mid-Summer Willard Walleye setup?
#1
Just read about this Columbia River Walleye Setup..... Maybe with a few mods this approach would work up in the bath tub....

Sweeper rig! I start out with a deep diving hotlips and remove the hooks then run 6-7ft leader with a 1/8 splitshot in the middle then attach a modified White storm swimin shad. (Modification) remove the jig head and replace with a pill float in the green color, in the belly I place a 3mm glass rattle so the rig floats upright then draw perch stripes on each side with a red belly with sharpie pens. I rig this with a light wire mustad 3/0 ostopuss hook, Sounds like a pain (but works) run the rig up river until the plug is digging the bottom, then pull the rod forward and let sweep back when the rig stops set the hook! On these big walleyes in the columbia this thing really works!

Just spreading the knowledge - hope the Eyes cooperate....

It all sounds great and ingenious to me, but only if we could lasso the Columbia River and bring it through to Utah... Isn't Columbia River big enough to go trolling?

Sounds like a good setup but I think you would need to show me how it works before I could figure it out. Have you ever tried anything like it?

I think the key to this presentation is using the Hot Lips lure to get you down to the bottom and then trail it with a shad imitation lure.

That's face it - you have to use something to get your lure in the strike zone - bottom bouncer weight, deep diving crankbait, snap-on weights, etc. ---- why not use another lure??

Also - lately I have seen pro-fisherman putting a short leader (6") on there crankbaits with a small trailer streamer or fly. If the fish are short striking the bait then this will give you a better chance to get those non-aggressive short biters.

Will I be trying this presentation out? For Sure..... Let see what could I put behind a deep diving crank bait.... floating worm harness, lipless crankbaits, how about a single floating bead with a threaded night-crawler --- and the list goes on & on....

Good luck - just trying to open the possibilities and yes the Columbia has world class walleye fishing but Lake X will be putting out some 10 lb.+ fishing in a couple of years... It will be a world class walleye fishery that will be in your backyard.
