The were all released??? They are layin' hi-n-dry in the bottom of your boat. Do you keep them in a live well and release them after you're done fishing? Just curious on this one.

These fish were lifted out of the water, laid out, photographed and then put back in the water. (90 seconds tops). Then, one by one taken off the stringer and released. We use a couple of 18' long stringers with fish clips on them set every 18". After you land a fish, just throw him on the end clip and work your way forward as your catch progresses. You have to lip hook them (just off one side of their toung)through the thin membrane in their lower lip, not through the gills. Hooked up like this the fish just drag along through the water as you troll, receiving a constant fresh flow of water through the gills. The first fish we landed was dragged along for 8 hrs, and he splashed water in my face as he said goodbuy. I first heard about this way of hooking fish through the lower lip on the boards a couple of weeks ago when they were talking about keeping a female walleye on a leash to bring in the males. At the end of the day they would let the hen go. Seems to work very well 'cuz we've hooked up and released a lot of fish. Haven't lost one yet. When you practice catch and release, you waive the opportunity for that "days catch" photograph, unless you have a way to keep your catch alive and healthy for hours. thanks for the tips guys.

i'm just guessing at the speed we troll. don't have any mph technology on board. however we do have a rpm guage which allows us to remain consistant. when it comes to wiper trolling speed, i've found the "when in doubt, speed up" theory works well. also, "if you can let out more line without hitting the bottom, do it." you want to be as far behind the boat as possible without bottom bouncing your lure. jann caught the biggest fish of the day weighing in at 4.6 lbs and 23" long.

[#ff0000]NICE FISH!!! THE WIPERS IN THE MIDDLE WITH THE RED TINT TO THEM LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN IN A COOLER FOR A LONG TIME.. OR A LIVE WELL WITH NO WATER!! SOME FREINDS AND I CAUGHT 6 WIPERS AND 1 WALLEYE BETWEEN SAT AND SUNDAY!! TROLLING 2 MPH.. THE LURES THAT DIVED DEEPER SEEMED TO PERFORM BETTER AND NO SPECIAL COLOR.. HOPEFULLY THAT HOLDS TRUE THIS WEEKEND!! [/#ff0000]

Congrats on a great day at willard and especially for Jann's fish. What a brute. In my experience fish change color when under stress. I am glad to hear that the fish swam away after being drug for 8 hours, but you have got to admit that is not the normal routine for any fish. Fish typically both feed and rest throughout the day to conserve energy. Why cause the added stress to the fish for a "days catch" picture. Jann's picture turned out great. A picture like that is a lot more flattering to the angler and to the fish than being stuck any way on a stringer. Sorry to rip on you, but I think you need to re-think this one. Jake
