Did anybody catch the news special last night on draining Lake Powell? It was on ABC (I think) and was one hour long. Talk about biased! If were an uninformed 'city person' from New York or somewhere and had never been to Lake Powell, I'm afraid I could have bought into the whole thing, which is what I found most disturbing. Although the presentation had opinions from both sides, it seemed biased towards the 'environmentalist' wanting to drain the lake. If that were to happen (which I don't think it will) it would be a real loss and a tragedy. Just my 2 cents worth.

I didn't catch the special, but I've heard from years the environmentalist side of the story. Stinking liberal media doesn't know jack if you ask me. Draining that place would have such a negative impact on the southwest. I know Southernman is a little more liberal, but I wonder what his feelings on the lake are.

You said it! I even found myself swearing at the TV. One thing that was really absurd was when they mentioned the ruins that had been recently uncovered by the drought, but then showed what looked exactly like the Forgotten canyon ruins (which are just replicas of the actual ruins anyways). The ruins that were shown did not have any water marks or discoloration at all, thus it is not very likely that they were covered by water less than a couple of years ago.

Im not so much worried about the tree huggers draining Lake Powell as I am the the Cliff walls surrounding the lake giveing out. I remember watching a T.V. speacial on Lake Powell and they talked about how the sediment at lake powell is to soft and that the water is slowly eating away at the rock, specially at the dam where pressure is strongest. I forgot how long, but they predicated how many more years befor the rocks give out eliminating the present dam altogether.

Hi Pat! I actually had to write a paper in college in creative writing class where we were given the topics to write about. I had to write a paper in favor of draining the lake. I could find lots of reasons not to drain it but only a few that were pro-draining.
