Willard Friday
#1
I had the pleasure of fishing with Aquaman on Friday, and the camaraderie, weather, and fishing were pretty good. I still don't have a radio yet so we were unable to communicate with fellow boardmembers, but the radio is next on my wish list. I understand Fishcrazy, Bloodhound, and BLM were out there as well. Sorry I didn't have the opportunity to meet you guys, I guess I could have secured the boat at the dock and came up to meet you guys when we were launching, but I was anxious to get out on the water.
We trolled for a while near the island and managed to get one wiper (my first, as well as the first fish I have caught on the new boat- the monkey's off my back!) We worked the West dike for a while with no success and then headed back out to the middle where we discovered some success- no reference points that I could describe. We managed to catch five more wipers and two walleyes in a span of about two hours or so, and then called it a day. We saw BLM cruise by earlier and decided to go say hi even if it was from a distance. Probably could have stayed longer and increased our success, but I think we both had enough sun to that point. Good luck to anyone that heads out this weekend and enjoy the fine weather and camaraderie. [Smile]
Here are a couple pics: Fortunately I had my camera with me, unfortunately it was missing the memory chip (in the printer at home), so I didn't get any pics of Aquaman[unsure]

That 2nd pic looks there is some snow on the ground! Or mabey you really caught those fish through the ice this year and you just didn't want to tell anyone about it.[Wink] Thanks for the report!

Yeah I woke up to 6-8 inches of snow Wed am (a product of living at 6200 feet) and that is what is left of it. I wish it would just go away! Talk about placing your catch on ice, it worked out pretty good while I was cleaning them (kept em cold).

I was also there on Friday. I landed one wiper that went 22" using my fly rod and a white flash bugger with a sinking line. That was a blast! There are so many folks throwing white tubes at the wipers that I bet they will stop hitting them. The shore was elbow to elbow by evening.
I lost my radio as I was leaving. If anyone finds a camo one on channel 12-0 on the West side by the East bend,it may be mine![Sad]

Thanks for the report FUF, sounds like a good day on the pond. Were you out there today? I saw a boat just like yours over in the S/E corner by the freeway and the big power poles. WH2

Hey fonduvfishin,

I am glad to hear that you and aquaman had a good day. I was with fishcrazy in his boat(a very nice watercraft). Like you guys, we had a great day on the water - good fishing, good weather, good conversation and good company while doing it - we didn't catch anything really though - but that didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the day. Being the consciencious fishermen like we are, we allowed the fish to release themselves prior to being hooked up - yea, we're them kind of guys, and we were actually thinking of everyone else and their future enjoyment, so we left some fish for all the other folks that might want to catch something some day. No really, no thanks necessary, we were glad to be able to let you all have the experience of catching some fish for your ownselves.

We did get a chance to say howdy and wave at a few BFT folks while they out fished us from a distance. We saw DKS with his catch and his dog(good looking spanial of some type) - too bad about your radio DKS(BTW - did you know that spanials were originally designed to be hunting dogs ?) If so, you could get your dog to help find your radio - if you trained it that is, even if you haven't trained it, just take your dog on a walk(go very slowly) around your original path)and watch the dog's reactions very closely, and chances are your dog's nose will find your scent on your radio and point you just about in the place that your radio is to be found. My hounds help me find my misplaced or lost stuff all the time - but then again they are hounds.

WH2 to answer your question we did not fish East of the South Marina opening; however, we did cruise over in that direction to say hi to BLM and then we left for the day. so maybe you spotted us at that time, otherwise someone else may have a similar boat as mine? Maybe next time I get up there I will see you.
