I was wondering if anyone has ever had any luck fishing the very tail end of provo river lately. I'm talking about the section west of Geneva road. That section re-opens on may 1st. I have family that live down there but in the past I have had little luck. I don't even know if there are any browns left after what the carp did a few years ago (hundreds of thousands came out of Utah lake and absolutely overwhelmed the river). In the past I've used small spinners and flies for the trout, and small lures for the white bass. I still havn't been able to catch a walleye (though I've seen several HUGE ones). Thanks.

I really haven't seen any trout on my bike rides with the kiddies (I live quite close to that section of the river). I too am waiting for it to open up again so I can try to catch some post-spawn eyes.

What do you use to targe the walleye? I've usually seen them hanging around just where the river slows way down and gets very deep.

I caught two brown trout last winter on the bend just above the bridge before you enter the state park using a roostertail spinner. I also saw one other nice sized brown following my spinner about half way between there and the geneva road.

I am no expert on catching walleye. The only walleye I caught last year was by dumb luck. I was fishing the white bass run, and a 26" walleye decided to take a bite instead. No wonder there weren't a lot of white bass in that hole!
I was using olive green curly tail grub with black flake, and just bouncing it along the bottom. The river does look deep, but there are holes much deeper than others in that slower section. The bends tend to have the deepest holes.
Good luck!
