Gunlock has some great bass in it but I think with the flood and the snow melt, it might be murky at this time. I would check with DWR before going down there.

It's not a lack of cover that makes Gunlock a tough fish...there is plenty of cover. There's plenty of fish...it just a tough catch. The original strain of bass put into Gunlock is the Florida Largemouth. They are tough fish to catch. There is some lunker's however...go take a look on www.outdoorsgonewild.com I have a picture with a nice 8 1/2 lber.

ahhhhhhh. i see. so it is still worth giving it a shot. i just need to know what i'm doing. if thats the case i should stick to quail for a while cuz i'm just barely learning the in's n out's of largemouth since i've only lived down here for a few months. i'm used to smallies and trout. i pretty much make it up as i go but i manage to catch 6 or 7 every saturday at quail. thanx for the info bassrods.

at quail i retty much just stick to senkos, watermellon or pumpkin seed, wacky rigged, slowly twitched on the bottom and do fairly well. like i said i'm just learning and i've become comfortable with that setup and know i can hook a few so i stick to it. i dont know too much about anything else but i need to learn cuz i'm sure there will come a time that my little senkos won't turn a fish on[crazy]

Gunlock can be tough from the shore, there is a point there, out from the stairs (if the stairs are still there), where you can get into alot of fish, usually best when the wind is blowing from the dam. cranks and split shot worms do well, if you have your tube get out away from the shore a bit, if there arent to many waterskiers. Also the big cove across the lake from the parking lot has alot of submerged structure. I caught some nice cats there also. From the shore try the cove behind the parking lot.
