Had a few hours to get out and fish yesterday, so despite the weather we headed out. Could not decide to go after Muskie or Browns, and in the end the lure of big browns had me stoked! We started fishing about 12:30 pm and went until just before dark. We caught some fat, fistey rainbows and one cutt. It was my first trip to Lake X and I thought I had hooked a good brown, but I was not too disapointed in what came up from the murkey water! She was by far my best smallmouth to date! I could not wait to get home and check the record books, because she was up there. She swam away in great condition and I can't wait to get back up there! I only caught the one bass, and no perch. There was a lot of 3-8" perch floating dead on top of the water? I don't know why. She was caught in 7' of water and the bows and cutts were in 10-20' and suspended between 6-15'. All fish, smallmouth included were caught on black wooly buggers. I tried other colors with zero success. I tied up some big perch immatations to hopefully coax the browns and smallmouth, but no luck. No walleys, thank goodness!! I attached a couple of pics one with me and the other of my buddy Dave holding her showing off the big belly! Hope she makes some serious babies this year!! Jake
