Well we knew the time was coming, is sound as though you have your "walking papers" at this time, when are you shipping out? Hopefully not before the tourney, but if that is the case enjoy the summer there and get in some local fishing if possible. Fishcrazy and Bigfishrule I'm jealous of you both, The Kenai at that time of the year should be in the second King run (40lbs+) and the Kasiloff is an excellent river to float. Are you guys going out of Homer for the Halibut, ther are some real "barndoors" to be had on the Cook Inlet. Hope to see you at the tourney Chris, if not good luck.

Just curious. What type of work does one do on a trawler? Will this be a new experience for you, or is this a seasonal thing?
Working on a ship off the coast of Alaska sounds like more of an adventure than a job. If you have the time, please let us know what you'll be doing for three months.

what i will be doing is filleting fish below decks something i have done when i was a deckhand on sportboats in california
it will definitly be more work then adventure 12 to 16 hours a day seven days a week maybe a day off every two weeks when the boat goes to shore and unloads
of course i plan on taking a pole and geting in a little fishing on shore leave
the pay is what makes it attractive 32,000 to 40,000 a year and you work 3 months on 3 off or up to nine months if you want but that is the most they will let you work so you don't get brunt out
oh and the fact that they feed you 4 meals a day do your laundry for free and even have a weight room on board is another plus
oops forgot to anwser one of your questions this is new to me, and the work is seanol/year round what that means is there are 5 regions to fish but the same fish come in to " season " different times in different regions so the work is year round

It still sounds like an adventure. Although the long hours may get pretty old, it sounds like the rest of your employment may get exciting at times.
Best of luck to you.

fonduvfishin,
I will be going out of Homer for the halibut. Its been seven years since I was last up there. And I can't wait to here the scream of the reel when one of those big Kings take off on a run. Nothing we have here in Utah comes close to it.
