Hunington Resevoir.....Tigers-a-hoppin
#1
I took the family up Fairview Canyon Friday night for a little R&R......and fishing of course. Got in there kind of late friday night and by the time the trailer was all set, it was late. Decided to start the hunt for Tigers in the morning. 5:30 A.M. not a creature was stirring, except for me and the boys. Finally get the wife and girls out of bed by 6:15 (don't they realize it is already light outside), and we get to Huntington Resevoir by 7:00. Didn't take long till I brought in my first Tiger, and not a bad one at that. Pretty soon everybody started in on the action. Had a hard time keeping out with my own pole while trying to help my kids de-hook their lines. After a fairly eventful morning the afternoon died down. Between all of us we brought in over 30 Tigers. Quite a few dinkers, but some nice fish also.

So we went back to the trailer and tried (for the first time ever) to dutch oven fish and potatoes. Wasn't sure how that would turn out, but it wasn't bad at all.

Sunday morning rolls around, and we hit the shores again. Not as productive as the day before, but we brought in a real nice Tiger (21", 3 pounds). I say we because it was a combination effort between my wife and I. It was her pole, I put on the bait, cast it, she pulled in the slack, I hooked it and pulled it in (she was putting the baby to sleep). While my daughter was pullin in, I was watching my pole, knowing that the next big one was only moments away. I didn't snag any more, and our numbers were lower than Saturday, but still a good morning.

For our first Tiger hunting trip, we did well, and had a great time. If anybody is heading that way, worms tipped with salmon eggs seemed to do the trick, while powerbait worked ok.

I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance to download 'em.

Sounds like you guys had a good time up there. We have a cabin by Goosberry so I fish up there all the time. I love to flyfish on Huntington. Is there room to fish from a float tube or is there still quite a bit of ice on the lake, I may try to go up tomorrow. Thanks for the report, this should be a good year up there, I'd be willing to bet that Huntington will fill up. The tigers are waiting for me![Wink]

We did have a great time. It was amazing how fast the ice was clearing. When we got there Saturday, there were open patches on the north shore, big enough for a couple people in each one, by Sunday morning, the whole north side was open and the south was starting to open. Also, we left some sticks in the ground that we used for pole holders, and by Sunday, they were two feet out in the water, it's rising fast. I did see one toon, and one canoe, but it looked crowded with the ice to shore distance. Although another day or two, it should be wide open. We also have a cabin up there, but it is by Miller Flat Resevoir, and the gate won't open for at least a week it sounds like. Might see you around up there sometime then. Good Luck!

Here's the pics of that tiger....sorry about the one with the tape, my wife didn't get the numbers very good, but you can make it out if you look hard!!

A guy next too us caught one that same length on Saturday morning, but it was about 2 1/2 pounds, not as beefy. Anyways, have a look.
