Saltwater poppers

Being young Im rather new to the saltwater fishing world, Iv been catching fish on the poppers Iv been using from shore but was just wondering what the correct technique for using one is? Im sure everyone has their own style, so share your tips.

if you are fishing the surf cast the popper out twitch the rod 2 or 3 times and reel then twitch again 2or 3 times and reel but let it set a second or 2 before you reel if there are fish around this should draw a strike I use this tehcnique for topwaters like top dogs also and it works you can also do the same thing with a Bomber or a diamond jig only with the jig you want it to hit the bottom before you start
