USA - Three river dams in Grand Traverse county may soon be removed.Tuesday night Grand Traverse area residents had the chance to learn more about the reasons why the three dams on the Boardman river may be removed.
Traverse City Light and Power officials say the Sabin dam, the Boardman dam and the Brown Bridge dam are aging and not worth the cost of maintaining.
The State Department of Natural Resources is also in support of removing the dams.
DNR biologists say they cause the water temperature to increase and hurt the unique cold water fish populations and habitats.
After the DNR's restoration plan is finished next month, there will be public meetings in July.
The decision will be made by June of 2007.
If they are going to be removed, the process will start in September of 2007.
