[/font][/red][/size][font "Arial"][#000000][blue][size 2]Though there aren’t a lot of people in town, the fishing boats have had some "really good catches."
The red snapper continue to bite in state waters and other species have been frequent enough to make for interesting catching offshore.
"Trout fishing has just exploded over on the north jetty," according Woody’s Sports Center.
Fishing over there has been better than it’s been in nearly a year.
They are catching lots of trout, redfish, black drum, sheepshead and a few pompano.
There was a tarpon caught and released out towards the end of the north jetty by a local angler.
There have been some really good catches come back to the dock at Fisherman’s Wharf, Anglers are coming in with full limits of nice sized kingfish, limits of Atlantic sharpnose shark, an occasional amberjack, and vermilion and lane snapper mixed with a few triggerfish.
The bay guides are catching black drum, a few redfish and an occasional flounder.
Offshore Adventures says on the trips to state waters anglers have brought home red snapper (several weighing as much as 10 pounds), limits of black drum, sea trout, redfish and "several big bull reds."
The 12-hour trips are producing tuna and the nine-hour trips are resulting in catches of vermilion and lane snapper, triggerfish and spadefish.
Anglers fishing off of Horace Caldwell Pier have been catching black drum, oversize redfish, Florida pompano, sand trout and whiting as well as blacktip shark, according to Terry Jensen.
Now that the weather has cooled, they are catching flounder, she added.
Deep Sea Headquarters reports trips to state waters are producing shark, redfish, a few red snapper and trout.
There have been good catches of blackfin and yellowfin tuna, two of the latter tipping the scales at 83 and 86 pounds.
On one of the trips, an angler caught a 90-pound shark and others caught kingfish. There, also, have been catches of vermilion, lane and dog snapper as well as a few triggerfish.
Dolphin Dock Inc. fishermen, have made catches of amberjack, kingfish, vermilion snapper and shark. The fishermen from there caught a lot of both blackfin and yellowfin tuna.
