Bear River Cats

All the recent talk of catching cats has got me rembering the days before we spent thousands on a boat and used to wander the banks of the Bear River hunting Cat Fish. So Sunday afternoon we decided to leave the boat home and go "old school" and give it a shot. With the water levels still very high we decided to drive down to Bear River City and fish a large back eddie we know on some private property. After a little trial and error finding the right weight combination (2oz.) to sink our slabs of sucker meat to the bottom we started to get bit. We had a few small ones but really only one worth showing, a nice 8# cat that took a large slab right on the current line. All in all a pretty slow day alot of hits but not many hookups ( still fun []), that should change dramatically for the better when the water level receeds alittle.

Pat- I went over the Bear River several days ago east of Tremonton to Deweyville and the river was still almost to the top of the bank. It has receeded off from most of the low lying farm lands that were flooded earlier. The water was two to three feet deep in Petersen Park along the river. The care taker said they tied the park tables together with cables to prevent them from floating away in the water. The water is still very dirty and full of sediment. I don't know if it will scour out the holes or fill them in with sediment. Acey
