The good news.....Cabelas has announced that it will be building a 600,000 sq foot store on the west side of Phoenix. Last week the voters of Mesa passed a resolution that will allow the construction of a Bass Pro Shops less than two miles from where I live. Both stores should be in operation by next year. Bass Pro and Cabelas less than 30 minutes away from each other! How cool!
The bad news....I will no longer be able to avoid sales tax from EITHER store.

if you buy something online or from a catalog you only have to pay sales tax if they have a store in your state. right now we dont pay sales tax on cabelas orders, but once they open their doors in utah- we will have to, even on catalog orders.

For those of you who "avoid" sales tax by making purchases on-line, you might want to check into a thing called use tax. It can be found on your Utah individual income tax return.

Yeah!!! lol. But honey, you see it was all for you!!! It was supposed to be a surprise, but I had to take it all out on the lake first to test it for you to make sure it worked properly!! And the darndest thing happened while out there, this big freak wave came by and knocked it all out of the boat!! It was tragic!! Don't worry honey, I'll get you some more next month! [cool]

[cool]Hey you're lucky, Shrimpboy! I think the good news outways the bad. Wish we had a Basspro also going in up here in Utah. It's gonna be great to actually walk into Cabelas and see the things in person you were thinking of ordering anyway. Ours is supposed to be finished early this fall.

Apparently where I go, Cabelas follows. I grew up in Lehi and I actually used to shoot doves on the property where the Lehi Cabelas is going in.
I was under the impression that Cabelas and Bass Pro never went into the same cities. I guess I was wrong. Sportsmans Warehouse just started moving in down here a few years ago. They have a store in the north part of the valley and another in the west. They were supposed to build one out in Mesa this fall, but I haven't heard anything about it in a while. I wonder if they're changing their minds about expansion in this area.
Here's a question for you all. You can't buy guns through mail with Cabelas (except for muzzies), but what about in the actual stores? Do they carry rifles, handguns, etc?

If you crunch the numbers on sales tax or shipping, you only come out ahead by paying shipping instead of sales tax if you spend over $200 each time.

I say they waste plenty of our money already.
Do some of you people voluntarily pay taxes on stuff that you managed to avoid paying tax on in the first place ???
Cause if you do man, I have some property I want to sell you.
