Lindon Harbor Friday
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Got in a sudden sneakaway trip to Lindon Harbor. Launched the tubes at 10 AM. Breezes light, water murky, water temp 61 inside the harbor, 59 outside.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]A family was harvesting mudcats from the north dike, casting bobbers and worms into shallow water at the edge of the reeds on the north (outside) of the dike. TubeBabe and I each scored a white bass and a couple of missed strikes at the point going out.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The wind started picking up from the Southwest so we powered out to our usual catfishing area, to try to get in some fishing before the wind got worse. TubeBabe could not buy a hit on carp meat or worms. I dragged carp meat and white bass meat. Got one whack on white bass and two channels on the carp meat before the wind got more serious about 11:30. After that, I got a few bullheads (mudders) and several white bass on plastics, but no more takers on the catfish rig.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Stopped to cast around the point of the dike on the way in. Got a white bass on the first cast and a 17" walleye on the second cast. As I was taking the walleye off the hook an airboat cruised out of the harbor so close I could have touched him with my rod. The loud engine shut the fish off. No more bites.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]TubeBabe did score a half dozen whities, but no kitties or wallies. My two channels were 20" and 22" (2.6# and 4.4#). As we have said before, "We have had worse trips".[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Got to meet Slayerace back on the launch ramp. He, his daughter and his black lab were "helping" TubeBabe get her tube out of the water. It was good to finally meet ya, Randy. I think we have been e-jabbering for over two years now. Hope the leftover bait did you some good.[/#0000ff]

It was nice meeting you and TubeBabe too! why didn't you mention that beautiful 15 pounder that TubeBabe caught. I know you took a pic, don't be selfish, post it for all to see. It certainly was a beauty!!! Maybe someone will recognize the stringer that was attached to it and claim it!

Thanks for the extra bait. The fishing was real slow. We started at 10pm and stopped at 3am. Jed his Cousin and brother inlaw, and my friend Mike managed 1 mudder between all of them. I landed a mudder, a smallish Channel, and had a nice one on that broke my leader somehow. First time ever on Cajun Red. My main Line was 10# and my leader was 17#. Must have been a weak spot.

On a side note...I think Jed's getting mad at me. The new unofficial night fishing Channel Cat count is Jed 1, Randy 15. ( Correct me if I'm wrong Jed ) I must be bringing him bad luck, he always slays em' when I'm not there... Just kidding, he's an awesome fishing buddy.. We generally catch tons of fish wherever we go together. Anyway thanks again for the bait. I hope to bump into you again soon.

Randy

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry about the pics. I usually share those along with the rhetoric, but just didn't take the time to dump them from the camera and tweak them for the post.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]TubeBabe's "15 pounder" was taken on 4 pound line and her light rod, while fishing for white bass with a small plastic jig. At first she thought she had a snag (how many big fish stories start like that?). But, after a careful battle...not horsing it in...she was able to grab it by the ROPE. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It turned out to be a lost navy anchor, with all of the nice blue nylon rope. It still had a Sportsmans price sticker on it...$19.88. I'm sure there is a good story behind it. Either some fisherman is kicking himself for not tieing it off before lowering the hook...or is still cussing a wife, kid or fishing buddy for making the same bonehead mistake. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Of course, TubeBabe also insisted that I get a shot of HER fish...five nice little whities...that contributed to a great meal of garlic butter oven broiled fillets, with toasted sesame seed garnish. YUM.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As I mentioned, I did manage to scratch a couple of nice eatin' size kitties, three bullheads, and a few whites my own self. [/#0000ff][#0000ff]Also kept the small walleye to add to the broiler pan. That is four species...a "Lindon Slam".[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hey Randy, sorry you guys didn't do well. From what I observed both Friday and Saturday around Utah Lake, the low water temps have quieted the fish down a bit. Maybe after next week's forecast warming period things will "heat up" again. Really glad we got to meet you and look forward to "hooking up" down on the water again soon.[/#0000ff]
