Banner Spawn Boosts Texas Reservoir
#1
ZAPATA, TX—After a 10-year drought lowered water levels and led to a decline in bass fishing, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists say they’re once again excited about fishing prospects on the state’s Falcon Reservoir.

Beginning in fall 2003, heavy rains in the Rio Grande watershed brought drought conditions to an end. Falcon’s water level dramatically increased, from 45 feet low in June 2003 to nearly full in summer 2004, swelling the reservoir’s size swelled to about 60,000 acres.

The result was a tremendous 2004 spawn. Even better, those young bass have been growing quickly thanks to the thousands of acres of new habitat, including flooded brush ideal for young fish.
