Rochport Perch Help!
#1
I love to ice fish Rockport, but I am not sure how to catch the perch on my toon, in warm weather. I have tried the ice method with a little success but I know that there are better ways in warm weather.
Do the perch stay on the bottom in the summer like they do in the winter. Can you use a bobber and jig?
I will be there sometime this weekend and I would like to know what to take for bait. I hope to also fish from the shore with my 3 year old grandson. Thanks, DKS.

I may be at Rockport this weekend as well. What day are you thinking about going ? I can show you the "perch zone" there - actually you can catch them almost every where but in my experience there, the shallows are your best bet(kind of on the east and/or south) there is also a good spot by the dam on the north west corner. You can catch them on almost anything - trolling rapalas, casting spinners or spoons, swimming jigs with grubs. Or if you prefer, you could use a float'n'jig - suspended up off the bottom - those work best for me when there is some water/wave/wind action on the rig itself.

I will be in the area on Friday to Sunday. I also want to hit Mill Hollow and maybe Deer Creek. I have never fished Deer Creek and could use some help on how to fish it also.
I will be on my toon in any case.
Fishhound, when will you be at Rockport? I am open. The weather looks like wind with a storm may hit on Saturday.
I will have a radio on Channel 7-0. That channel gives me a better range that 12-0. I will also montior channel 12 for a while.DKS.

Depending on the weather - I was thinking of being up there on either Saturday or Sunday in my boat or on my pontoon. But, I could easily find myself at DC or even bank fishing somewhere else with my hounds. What I mean is that I will adjust(as I usually do) according to what the weather looks like. I can fish heavy weather and water from my toon, but my boat is not quite that robust when it comes to adverse weather conditions. And I can fish in just about any weather conditions from shore with my hounds - except We prefer not to hang out in real hot temps with lot's of bugs.
