Ashley Creek and Currant Creek
#1
Went out to Vernal and as per usual with me, the fishing is the only thing that worked out well. [pirate] I fished Ashley Creek on Saturday and even though it was running high and a little dirty, I still caught about six rainbows on a Gold Mepps Spinner in about two hours of fishing... I don't know if thats good or bad but I guess for the river conditions, it was alright. Thanks TCFish for the heads up on the Red Cloud Loop idea. We stopped by Steinaker but I didn't see anywhere to really bank fish so we kept going.... looks awesome for bass though with all the flooded brush now...... May be worth a return visit when I get the tube fixed.... Anyway, after I left the gal behind on Sunday (and yes, it was my fault), I went back up and fished up Ashley Creek further until a thunderstorm freaked me into leaving.... It was just too close for comfort. Then I drove home but hit Currant Creek on the way. I drove up a couple miles and fished and managed a few browns in another couple hours. The browns were all small 12 inches or so, until I fished this really dead looking stretch and nailed a fourteen inch brown. It was really fat too. Cleaned it but no eggs, thank goodness. Anyway, its going to be dinner tonight but not before I snap a pic. I also got a pic of one of the Rainbows up on Ashley Creek. They were a gorgeous sight after staring at tiny brookies up on the Kamas side of things.... Bright colors, and some decent sized fish for a stream that size... I think my biggest bow ran about fourteen inches or so. It was very nice and the scenery made it worth the trip. I'll post the pics after I get them developed and resized with a little help. Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions... I didn't do Steinaker, Red Fleet, the Gorge or the Green so there are more trips and reports forthcoming.... [cool]

Hey rr you won't have to worry about killing any spawning browns for quite some time. The Brown Trout spawn at the end of the year. In the Provo that means Nov. through December. In the high mountain areas like Currant Creek, it might be a little earlier, like Oct - Nov.

Oh, I just figured that would be just my luck... keep a decent fish to eat and they're usually full of eggs. I've caught enough browns that I kinda have a general idea of when on what waters but it would be just my luck that nature would throw a curve... already kept bass full of eggs this year, gills full of eggs and cats....so why not Browns?? [unsure] I just hate it when that happens, although I don't really know of any way to tell for sure I guess....

It's easy to avoid, just get skunked all the time then you don't have to worry about it![Tongue][Tongue][Tongue]

Seriously though, I avoid it simply because I don't usually keep any big fish. I don't like to eat big thick fillets, so I generall only keep smaller fish, and let the big boys go.

[cool]Nice report, but I have a question. Isn't Ashley Creek one of the creeks that that new report came out in the SLTrib a few weeks ago about the fish eating advisories? If so, I hope you don't eat too many of those fish outta there with the mercury content and all.
