It Worked!!!!
#1
It worked!!!!! I was working on a fly for the South Fork of the Ogden and it worked. I am calling it the South Fork Slayer for now. It is tied like a hare's ear with some major changes. Once I get the recipe down (for it and the variants that worked) I will give it out to those who ask, no charge.

Details:
I got on the river at 7:30 saturday morning. I figured I could beat the tubing crowds and have a piece full day on the river. Third cast through a hole produced a 12" brown, two more casts a 13" inch brown. Not a bad start. The next catch as a 22" 3-4 pound whitefish. This thing was a pig, I could not get my hand around it at all. Not glorious, but it sure fought hard. The next 10 fish were all over 16" all browns and one pushing 19". Total for all fish was 15 with 5 long releases (had them on the line and lost them before I could get them to the net). 4 where 13" and under, one white and 10 over 16". All of this with two variations of the South Fork Slayer, all released (but one. I love to eat trout once and a while), and here's the best part, I didn't move my feet but two feet. Yep, all these fish came from the same hole. I am heading out again Saturday to try again.

When I cleaned the 16" brown I took home, I removed a 3 inch minnow (I presume another brown) from its stomach. Even though it was full of fish it still hit my fly. I suspect a two to three inch white clouser pulled through the holes at night would product some really big South Fork Browns!!!

I have some pictures of some of the catches on my disposable, when I get them developed, I will post them along with the recipe and hopefully picture of the fly.

[red]OK, here's asking. I'd love to see your picks - and pattern - for your "south fork slayer." The south fork is safe from me but maybe it can develop an alius AKA the "Cache Valley Killer." [/red]

I would love to get a glance at the pattern as well. I've been thinking it's about time I pulled the fly rod out of the closet, dusted it off, and used it to soak a fly or two.
