fishing reel line
#1
When fishing reels are rated by how much line they hold like 230/25, is that the max size line you can use. I am looking for a spinning reel that I can put some 40 lb. test on. I know I can find them in the baitcaster reels but I am not athelitically gifted enough to cast them.

thats not the max size line you can use but that is the max yards you can put on that reel of that size line. 40lb. test is a pretty big line for a spinner, your casting will suffer in distance, just a thought. hope this helps.

Have you ever thought about trying some of the superlines out there? Instead of buying yourself a new reel, you could spend $10-$15 for Powerpro, Fireline, or Spiderwire, spool up your existing reel and take it for a test drive. I've used 30# strength Powerpro on my spinning reels and they have worked out fine, castability and strength wise. Going back to reels, I have a Daiwa 2500ST and its recommended line sizes are from 17-30 lb. My other Daiwa (3500 series) only goes up to 17 lbs. You can check out West Marine's website (www.westmarine.com) for some of their reels. Good luck in your search.

As castmaster replied: try the super lines ie spider line etc. The diameter of these super lines is smaller than the lb rating of the line. For example I have some 15 lb power pro line that says its equivalent diameter is 4 lb. This way you can get on enough line on a spin reel that is the lb strengh you want.
