Hello Everyone,
Headed up to fish the Gorge and the Green on Monday morning. Started out on the Green. Fished from Little Hole up 3 1/2 miles towards the dam. Did very well on countdown Rapalas. Between and friend and I we caught roughly 35 fish, with the biggest being a 24 inch brown.
Spent that evening just shore fishing for smallies. We threw spinner baits and were catching smallies every other cast or so. Most of them were very small. Biggest was a 17 incher. We also caught a few planter rainbows on the spinnerbaits... had never done that before.
The next morning we got the boat out. First of all, I would like to thank all of you that helped me by answering my questions regarding how to jig for Macs. Especially DonInDenver. Anyway, we launched at the Cedar Springs Marina. We headed towards the Dam. There was a nice point that headed directly out towards those two islands. We stopped right between the point and the island. Dropped down with a 4 inch green tube jig, in about 70 feet of water (estimated because we did not have a finder), and wham! My friend nails a 6 lb mac within 5 seconds of being on the bottom. I set my rod down to help him land the fish, and while I am holding the net, my rod gets nailed and I bring in a 4 lber. We stayed on this spot for about 3 hours and we ended up catching about 10 macs between us, and the smallest was about 22inches. And yes, we both kept a limit of the smaller macs.
Then the wind picked up. So we decided to troll for a little while and see if we could pick up some kokes. On one rod we were trolling a wedding rind tipped with a worm behind an 18 inch strand of popgear. And on the other we had a koke-e- something or other (some kind of a lure) with a dodger. We couldn't keep the 15 inch rainbows off. We trolled for about 2 hours before the lightning pushed our butts off the lake. Did not end up catching any kokes, did have a nice one right to the boat, but it got off.
All in all it was a great trip. Again thanks to those who offered their great advice.
