[#505000]The stinky skunk is gone [Tongue][/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Spending the last few weeks fretting over the fact I have had an unprecidented 5 skunkings in a row; I was having a hard time figuring out which smelled worse... the stink of skunk or the stink of desperation.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]I got home from work last night and told my dear sweet wife I wanted to go fishing sometime during the week to try and shake the skunk who's teeth were buried deeply in my left butt cheek . My wife suggested we go fishing right that very moment. Knowing it was that or mowing the jungle I call a lawn I jumped at the opportunity. [/#505000]

[#505000]We dropped our little girl at grandma's and I saw my fishing nemisis, Mikey the Skunk (my wife's 14 year old brother). For those of you who have read posts from the past, taking Mikey the Skunk fishing is a good way to guarantee a good skunking.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Feeling bad I hadn't invited him, I remembered a Discovery Channel program I saw once showing guys putting out oil well fires with dynamite. I also got to thinking about forest fires and how the firefighters who go after them use fire to stop forest fires, and I had a moment of insight.... fight skunk with skunk!!![/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]I quickly invited Mikey the Skunk who grabbed his license and hopped in the car. It was a gamble taking Mikey but like I said, the stink of desperation was starting to overwhelm the stink of skunk. Since it was a spur of the moment trip with limited time to spend on the water we opted to go to nearby Payson Lake. I know I've joked (ya..... joked....... [angelic]) about going to a hatchey to get the skunk off. Those familiar with Payson lake know it is almost the same thing as! As we walked around the lake to find a good spot my wife said....[/#505000]

[#505000]"Is that a skunk I smell" ?[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Sniffing the air I really could smell a skunk. Always an ominous sign. I baited up all the poles and into the water they went. Within a few minutes Mikey the Skunk had a bite, but missed it because he wasn't paying attention. Then my wife had a few bites and missed them also because she is still mastering the hookset. The last fishing she did she would yank the hook out of the fish setting the hook, this time she gently pulled the hook out of the fishes mouth. [/#505000]

[#505000]After a time I finally got a hit and pulled in a small brookie!!!! My plan worked and I wasn't going to have to drown Mikey the Skunk as a scarifice to the fish gods!!!! A few minutes later I got a little rainbow. I released both fish since they were small by my standards. Mikey the skunk caught one (also released), and somehow my wife managed to make a birds nest of a spinning reel. [/#505000][#505000]I got it fixed and we got her back in the water. Before long it got dark and a storm rolled in and began dumping on us. We packed it up and called it a night. It feels good to have scared away the skunk!!! [cool][/#505000]

As always a very interesting post from C.P. I don't know many people that could make that much of a story out of a fishing trip to Payson Lakes. I'm just glad I was able to keep you away from the fish hatchery here in town.

He would've gone to the Springville Fish Hatchery -- it's closer and easier to catch them -- but since they closed it for whirling disease he had to figure out another location.[cool][Tongue]

[#505000]That's nothing... you should go back a month or two and read my Utah Lake Skunk report..... not only is it twice as long, but I even had pictures!!!!! How many skunk reports do you see that include pictures?!?!?[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]As far as the Springville Hatchery goes...... they were wise to me and hired an extra DWR officer to do nothing but follow me around!!! [Tongue][/#505000]

Well if it helps any Gary, im heading to AF canyon in less than 2 weeks to camp and slaughter the little ones in the river. I usually keep 2 or 3 just for dinner but release the other 30[laugh]

I have been getting skunked again as well, so AF is my stress reliefe.

[cool]Nice job, Gary! I knew you'd get rid of that stinky skunk sooner or later. Now Karma is back in your favor, just in time for our little floatilla a week from Saturday. Should get into some nice cats, and maybe a walleye or white bass or two.
