Cuba - deep sea fishing - where to go?
#1
Hi Guys/Ladies:

I'm new to the board - Hi to everyone! I haven't had time to set things up yet, but I thought I'd shoot out a quickie before going to work.

The wife wants to head to Cuba for a couple of weeks this January. I know very little about deep sea fishing, and the same can be said about Cuba. What I do know is to look for colliding currents - preferrably warm and cool ones, and look for shelves or other structure. Where is a good area to go for deep-sea fishing? I'd love to hook into a nice sized marlin or tuna. Groundfishing for grouper, amberjack, or yellowtail sounds like a blast also.

Anyone have any advice? Location, boats, timing in January, cost? Bring my own light tackle?

Hi from Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada.

Thanks for the reply Snags. That's the place the wife had in mind, I just couldn't remember it. Too early in the day I guess. I was hoping for a few more replies. I'll give it a week then start begging[cool]

Thanks Snags. Have a good weekend. I'm hoping to get out for some of our beauty pickerel (walleye to my American friends) on Lake Erie.

The prices seem a expensive but it it a once in a lifetime experience.
Check this company out: http://www.cuba.tc/fishing.html
You can also call them toll free (even from Canada). They seem to be located in Florida USA. Unfortunately, us Americans can't experience it too.

That may prove easier said than done since January is the wrong month for Marlin! Yellowfin tuna may be easier as they have a temperature preference between 15-31 degrees celcius (59-88 for my southern cousins), in other words, where the food is.
