Got to the Willard south marina around 6:30 am and met up with PineviewFisher and loaded the boat and headed out trolling towards the feed lot at about between 1.6 and 1.9 mph on the GPS. The water temp was about 65 and we were graphing fish consistantly at all depths. We both started with crankbaits. PineviewFisher was first to get a strike - A fine wiper and in the live well it went. We turned south and made another pass but no hits. We passed the marina channel and PineviewFisher was right on the money again with another nice wiper.
We made a general call out on channel 12 and back came a response from garbageman - he and a couple of his cohorts we tubing along the south corner, so we headed in that direction to make contact.
As we trolled along the east dike on our way there, I got my first wiper and put it with the others. Then he and I both got another right before we got to garbageman and his crew.
The live well was filling fast - we had five already and were just getting started. The day continued nicely with hookups and misses regularly, but, not too fast. We were catching wipers on the bottom and between 8 and 12 feet, but, we never did see any boils.
The day ended with us boating 10 really nice and big wipers.
Another great day fishing !
Time to eat some fillets now.

Fishhound,
It was good to meet you! I am glad you both had a successful day. We left to check out Cabela's not long after meeting up with you, toting only one kittie and two chronic cases of the willard skunk. What a beautiful day though, sometimes its just good to sit in the sun for a while.

Hey garbageman,
It was good to put a face with the name. Sorry we didn't stop to chat or anything - but when I get on the trail, I seem to forget about some things - like being social. Hopefully next time we can chat a little bit and swap some fish stories or the like.
Sorry you guys didn't get into more fish, we caught several right there on that side of the lake - but then we had more lines out and could cover lots more water much faster in the boat. Even though we tried for a catfish and walleye, we only got wipers - we were a one species only fishing trip as well.
Did you guys park over there or did you float/kick all the way from the marina ?

Septr 18th, noon.
50 boats fishing WB with 49 of them trolling, casting, or jigging in the entrance to the south marina!!! Major traffic jam - lines everywhere.
This fishing was slow, maybe the full moon contributed to a midnight feeding frenzy, but we managed to boat a few wipers. All were in the 19" to 20" range - really nice fish and full of fight! Feedlot was our best spot, with the lightpole and north dike a total skunk. Didn't even graph any fish in those areas.
And now that the family "all-purpose" boat has a W/B tower and a new bimini, there's barely any room to swing a fishing rod! And I got to get some decent rod holders.
Man oh man, the sacrifices I make to keep everyone in this house happy.

Hey wades2deep,
We were one of those boats that passed through the south marina enterance a couple of times trolling, but didn't spend too much time there(we were in a small 16 foot green aluminum boat - maybe we passed each other).
We also went out to the west dike area, north dike and light pole and got skunked there too, but we did graph some fish on the bottom in the trough. All of our fish were caught in the feed lot, along the south and east dike areas.

Yup, The[#bfffbf] Green one [/#bfffbf][#005000]! That was us. [/#005000]

[#005000]I always try to look out for people's lines. I'd hate to have to stop fishing to either untangle, give back someone's lures, buy them a new one, or re-rig my line. I especially try to look out for side planers/down riggers and to not pass too closely to any one trolling. It doesn't help the fishing in either boat.[/#005000]
[#005000][/#005000]
[#005000]It's funny how that works. We didn't get any stikes when we adjusted our speed to above 1.9 mph GPS - all of our fish were caught at less than that. And, like you guys, we had several "drive-bys" that just said howdy and went on thier way. In fact, one time all three lines we had in the water go a "drive-by" almost simultaneously - like a triple hook up with out an actual completed hook-up - we must have went through a school of them that were just testing our passing offerings but decided that what we had was the wrong flavor of the day.
