The 2005 Nevada Trout Stamp contest is over and for the first time in contest history an artist from outside of the U.S. has won the contest. David Yarema of Mississauga, Ontario, whose painting of a redband trout was chosen, will grace the new trout stamp.
"I was very happy to hear the news of the contest. Last year I came in third place with my first ever fish painting, so I was even more pleased to learn of the 1st place win this time," said David.
The trout stamp art contest is held each year as a method of obtaining high quality artwork for the stamp. The winning entry will be portrayed in full color on the yearly Nevada Trout Stamp, which is required of all anglers 12 years of age and older who fish for trout on any water in the state. Proceeds from the sale of the stamp support NDOW's fish hatchery operations.
