Thanks for the info, I never knew there were so many waters in the state that were being stocked.

That is a great stocking report. Hopefully those fish can grow up to be big ones [blush]

did that report say they put 170,000 wipers in willard bay that are no larger that 1" in size? small enough? i wouldn't think that a 1" wiper would last to long with all the larger fish in that lake. ya learn something every day i guess.

I am sure that the intent of that stocking was both to provide some food source as well as limit the number of surviving wipers. Wipers do grow quicker than most species so those 1 inch fish by next spring will be 5-6 inches long.

actually, the fact that these wipers were stocked at 1" is a very pathetic fact. What it tells me is this: a hatchery supervisor somewhere is probably overly concerned with making his numbers good instead of actually benefitting a fishery. Those one-inchers are, in no way, intended to be added forage for larger fish...the hope is that they will grow to be adults. Wipers (or any other fish for that matter) should not be stocked at such a small size in a lake with so many predators because of the low survivability. In truth, the DWR should be stocking fish at a larger size despite the canabilism in the hatcheries because they would get a better return.
