[cool]Anybody with a brass set actually FISH the harddeck at Mantua yet? Predator, BearLakeMack, HFT, anybody?? I know some guys are heading up there on Friday (me too if I can score a kitchen pass). Just wondering if anybody has nailed some 'gils and perchies through the ice up there yet...

It is very possible I will be up there on Friday. With temps at where they are at, plus it already capped. I am confident there should be a good 4 inches or better.
BTW, what is a "kitchen pass?"

Yeah I am married!!! It must have something to do with letting me out of the house fishing??? I guess I havent encountered that due to her pleasures of going shopping, tanning and ect.

I look forward to seeing your report, because I would like to try it on Saturday if the ice is good. One thing to remember about Mantua's ice, there are warm underwater springs all over the lake, so if you are the first one on the ice be very careful. WH2

[cool]If I'm able to get out there on Friday I'll make Mike and Craig go first and I'll follow, LOL!! 'Course they both weigh a little less than my 205 lbs, so maybe that won't help?[crazy] Think we'll take some rope...

Exactly.Sounds like your wife and mine are two peas in a pod! Keep em happy and kitchen passes are fairly easy to come by.Good luck if you hit Mantua.

[cool]You've got yours trained pretty well, petty. She's a "yes-sir" kinda gal. Need to get mine that way, but she's pretty stubborn (pregnant too). I'm sure after I get doing well at this new job I start soon that things will get better after I'm pulling my financial weight a lot better. If not, I'll have to tell her what's what!

Hey, I've never fished Mantua but plan on it this year. Whats in there besides bluegill and perch? Also, what do the bluegill bite on? My girlfriends family lives in that region, soi might use it to my advantage.
Oh yeah, and if you don't marry them you don't need to get a kichen pass, you just help yourself [ ]

Bass and trout are also in Mantua. I fished it in the fall and used small jigs and flashers or spoons. All tipped with worm. I have only caught trout through the ice because Mantua was artificial only, until this year and trout were the only thing that would take my jig.
I would tell you more but I don't want to be accused of giving out too much information!!! ]

You can always pm me [ ] But do you ever catch perch on a consecutive basis instead of trout? Or guess what i'm trying to ask is, can you catch perch a lot or is it kind of a 50/50 deal? I must say i make a hell of an ice fisherman for trout [cool]

I am going up thursday morning with the auger and ice spikes to drill a ton of holes and check ice thickness.
As long as what I find is 3 inches or more, I will be there fishing friday and saturday.

What Predator didn't tell you he weighs 74 lbs. So, he and elves can walk on the ice without falling through. Wait, are you an Elf?

Like WiperHunter said watch out for the springs. I drive past it every day and I seen a large area out in the middle that looked like weak ice or no ice, the snow didn't even stick to this area. Plus there are a number of springs that are close to the shore.

In a recent release by DNR it was stated their were blugills in Mantua that are only matched by those in Pelican. Nothing more fun than slab bluegills!!!!!!!!!

I was up there at 4PM on Wed. Just walked out on the boat dock. Could see where someone had drilled a few holes next to the dock. It looked to be 2 to 2.5 inches thick to me. Gave the ice a few stomps with one foot still on the dock. Ice did not move at all. Needs another 1.5 inches to be safe enough for me. Air Tempature was 10 degrees.
