Fished Mantua just off the boat dock out about 30 feet. Ice still to thin to venture far (2-3 inches). Caught 2 perch and a blue. One of the perch was 11 inches.
There were a couple of people out farther walking around a lot. They've got bigger brass than me.
Air temp was 22 degrees when I arrived at 2:30 Pm and 13 degrees when I left at 5PM. Hope the ice will be 4 inches plus by sat or sun.

Thanks for the info, between the two Mantau reports it sounds like that place can be a a hard place to fine fish in the right place.

Finhunter, my son was also at Mantua Thursday afternoon.
He may have been one of the people you saw out farther on the ice. He moved around several times looking for perch. He finally found some in about 20' of water. The ice was less than 3" thick but he only weighs 140#. He wants me to go with back him this Saturday, but the ice will have to get at least 1" thicker before I will venture out.

[#000000]DKStroutfitter, [/#000000]I was 140# about 25 years ago. If I go through the ice now I'll sink to the bottom and get stuck in the mud like an anchor.
Might go out again today and see if the ice has thinkened up much.

[cool]There's a group from this board going out there today to celebrate a birthday. Hopefully they will find the fish. It can be tricky this time of year there. Most folks that ice fished it last year weren't very successful (at least in comparison with Rockperch). Hopefully they do well out there and have a great report. We'll see...
As for me, I'm not quite sure where I'm fishing Saturday yet (I've narrowed it down to four lakes), but it will definitely be on the harddeck. I'll have a full report when I go, wherever I go...

My father and I went out today (1:30 to sunset) and we fished the same spot close to the docks. Caught a few little perch right off the bat and then it went dead till sunset. Caught a couple bass then. My father caught a couple trout and a bass. The ice was about 3 inches so maybe its grown by half and inch.
People that walked out a hundred yards or so did better. Said it was better in the AM.
There were a lot more people out. There was even a group that walked out to the East end where the water comes in. Still need another inch of ice before I feel safe doing that.

[black]That group out to the east was Myself, Bassakwards, CBR, Fishing Waters, and Bassrods. The ice was fine out there. We were in 4 inches of ice most of the time. The ice was actually thicker out there then on the west side. We caught several perch and trout and a couple bass. The fishing wasn't stellar but it was ok. We got a lot of bites we also missed.[/black]

[black]I walked right by you guys when I was leaving. I was the guy who walked back from the east end alone with the sled, green bibs and black balaclava. I nodded at your Dad. He had a fur collared hood, didn't he?[/black]

Funny.. I don't remember what hat he was wearing, but that was probably us if we where about 30 feet from the docks. I recognize bassrods from the picture in the post below your post. He walked by us and said hello.
Might have to try on the east end. Did everyone in your group park on the west end and walk all the way across the lake? Last year they threatened to start ticketing people parking on the dike on the east end. I got a couple of warnings but was never ticketed.

[black]We parked by the restrooms below the ramp and walked out to the east. Believe me, hand dragging that sled/shelter all the way across and back sucks![/black]

[black]We usually park at the end of the road by the barnyard on the east side. We've never had a probleming being ticketed but I have seen people getting ticketed who have parked directly on the dike.[/black]
