I caught my first cisco of the season today/Bear lake report
#1
Well, I guess I should say I caught a cutt with a cisco in it's mouth. Wiperslayer and I made our last boat trip of the year to Bear lake today. After reading Baitcasters report yesterday we thought we would give it a try. It started off with a icy ramp and breaking the tail light out of the trailer as we broke the ice putting the boat in the water. The first picture gives a good idea what we faced this morning. We broke ice and followed the path out of the marina only to meet a stiff head wind once we got out of the channel. In some areas off the side of the path we followed out of the channel the ice was at least four inches thick. We decided to hit the new rock piles because the wind was to strong to head to the old rock pile. We started catching some nice cutts right a way, all the them were between 16 to 19 inches. We ended the day with 16 cutts, three whitefish and two macks. As the wind calmed down we made a run to the old rock pile but had no luck so we went to where we had started the day. By this time new ice was forming because of the lack of wind and cold temps, see picture. As we headed back into the marina, I took one last picture of the chunks of ice that were gathering at the entrance to the channel. It was a nice way to spend the day and it was great to get out there one last time in a boat. At the rate the ice is forming we might be walking on ice there before too long. WH2

We did not make up our minds about going until thursday night at work. We were hoping for some larger fish and I did have a larger mack on when I was using the new pole but never got it in. There was a fair amount of bend in the pole and I'm guessing the fish was around five pounds but it was a lot easier to jig for the fish. I guess I'll have to wait until next year now to put it to the test, it will be interesting to see how it will handle a fish in the ten pound plus range. We will definitely get out next year and get some macks. If we get lucky and the lake freezes maybe you and Ken can meet us to do some ice fishing on it this winter.

I'm sure we can make a few trips to the Gorge this winter, sounds like we should make some plans as soon as the ice is on.

Nice report and pictures there Team Wiper. I thought BC was going to be the last to launch at the marina. Guess I was wrong. Sounds like the new piles are starting to attract a few more fish.

I don't think we would have made it out of the marina if BC had not gone threw it the day before. We followed his path threw the worst of the ice but I would bet it was thick enough to walk on, almost four inches. I'm not sure where that cutt caught the cisco that was in it throat but it would not surprise me if it was on that rock pile. It looks like the fish have found the new rock pile and they like it.
